Job Description

Hey, it's great that you've found us. Are you ready for a challenge? Perhaps we have just the right opportunity for you. At holi, we believe in the power of community and are dedicated to helping individuals transform their ideas into positive impacts.

Our mission is to create a new digital ecosystem, a hub that removes barriers and enables people to channel their energy into meaningful social projects. Simultaneously, we're building the digital home for social initiatives, with the aim of collectively expanding their digital reach. We're at the start of an exciting journey, and we're on a mission to scale rapidly in the coming months and years. To achieve this, we need to establish the technical and organizational foundations that will make it all possible.

As a DevOps Software Engineer , you will play a critical role in the continuous development and improvement of our systems. You will combine your software development skills with cloud infrastructure expertise to support and optimize our infrastructure and deployment pipelines. This role goes beyond traditional cloud configuration, requiring a proactive approach to automate and scale our solutions.

Responsibilities

As a DevOps Software Engineer at holi, you'll:

  • collaborate within a cross-functional team of experienced engineers, product managers, and designers to design, implement, and maintain our scalable cloud infrastructure
  • build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable deployment processes.
  • support developer productivity by designing, implementing and managing a consistent developer experience in a multi-service cloud infrastructure.
  • automate recurring tasks to offload chores off developers.
  • work closely with software engineers to ensure seamless integration of new features and solutions.
  • monitor and improve the performance, scalability, and security of our cloud systems.
  • troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to cloud infrastructure and application deployments.
  • be a pillar for the shared responsibility of operating our app and site.
Furthermore, all holi software engineers…

  • engage in regular knowledge exchange sessions with teams to share learnings, discuss challenges, and explore new developments.
  • participate in communities of practice.
  • contribute to retrospectives to help improve our processes.
  • work with state of the art technologies.
  • integrate open source solutions into our platform and enhance the functionality of holi.
  • contribute to open source projects used by holi.

Requirements

Ideally, you…

  • bring lots of experience in software operations and at least some hands-on time in software engineering.
  • have a solid background with tools and platforms, especially with:
    • Google Cloud Platform & Terraform: We mainly work with Run Services & Jobs, Functions, Compute VMs, Buckets, SQL, Pub/Sub, and MemoryStore
    • GitLab & GitLab CI
  • feel comfortable with scripting in Shell, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • have a strong interest in data pipelines and machine learning infrastructure.
  • are passionate about maintaining high quality standards and staying up to date with cloud lifecycle techniques.
  • like solving problems and paying attention to the small details.
  • are excited to share your expertise and work collaboratively with the team to keep improving how we build cloud-enabled systems.
  • speak English fluently.

Our Tech Stack

We believe in the strength of multiple Full Stack teams collaborating closely with each other and the entire organization. Our frontend is developed cross-platform in TypeScript, utilizing React Native for mobile in combination with React Native for Web and Next.JS for web. The backend comprises a mix of open-source components in various languages (primarily TypeScript & Python). We rely on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as our cloud provider and Terraform for provisioning our services.

We are in the process of becoming Open Source. The sources are already available, but we’re still working on documentation and further opening up the development process. If you already want to take a look, check out  holi Open Source .

How We Work

At holi, our team truly values a workplace where we can openly communicate and connect, using language that includes everyone. We appreciate the different perspectives that team members bring, and we create an atmosphere where new ideas are welcome. Learning is a continuous journey, and we're all about sharing knowledge and making decisions together. We're a close-knit team, helping and supporting each other while keeping things simple and practical rather than seeking perfection. We have zero tolerance for toxic or egoistic behavior, as we prioritize collaboration and positivity. Our main focus is on making a positive impact and prioritizing people over profits. Additionally, we offer perks such as a weekly Yoga class and occasional "cool down" days to encourage personal development and well-being.

  • We are a remote-first company, and you can work fully remote or at our Hamburg office.
  • We organize company-wide retreats and optional meet-ups every quarter.
  • Ideally, your working hours align with CET +/-2 hours.
  • We offer flexible part-time or full-time arrangements.
  • We encourage taking time off when needed, with an unlimited vacation day policy (minimum 25 days per year based on full-time employment).

Interested?

If our mission resonates with you, we'd love to get to know you better. Send us a few lines about yourself and why we should connect. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Let's create change together – perhaps with you on our team. We're excited to hear from you!
