Job Summary:

As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and integration of fiber optic infrastructure for ITS projects under the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Key Responsibilities:
  1. Fiber Optic Installation:
    • Install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables, adhering to industry standards and FDOT project specifications.
    • Assist with the deployment and upkeep of fiber optic enclosures, cabinets, and related equipment used in ITS systems.
  2. ITS Systems Support:
    • Collaborate with the project team to configure, install, and maintain Intelligent Transportation Systems components, including traffic cameras, variable message signs (VMS), and traffic signal control equipment.
    • Play a key role in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to ITS systems and fiber connectivity.
  3. Travel and Overtime:
    • Travel to the worksite daily to pick up the company vehicle for transportation to project sites.
    • Be prepared to work 50-60 hours per week on average.
  4. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Maintain detailed records of fiber cable installations, ITS equipment configurations, and project documentation, ensuring compliance with FDOT standards.
    • Stay informed about FDOT regulations and adhere to safety protocols and industry best practices to maintain a secure working environment.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in fiber optics and ITS are advantageous.
  • Previous experience in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, termination, or ITS system integration.
  • Familiarity with specialized fiber optic testing equipment and ITS diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of FDOT project requirements and regulations is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within a project team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites daily.
