Job Description

Job Summary: The Allergy Nurse is responsible for providing quality, compassionate patient care in the clinic setting consistent with Holston Medical Group's quality practice standards, polices, procedures and customer service expectations. As a member of the clinical staff, the Allergy Nurse will proactively participate in identifying the needs of the patients and will implement methodology as directed to improve both patient clinical experience and care. Duties/Responsibilities:Use patient first values in assisting patients with needsGreet patients with compassion and a friendly faceTaking vital signs, data collection with both written and electronic documentationAll allergy testing, mixing of serums for testing, mixing of serums for treatment and medication administrationAccurately assess and record patient vital signs in electronic databasePrepare patients for testingServe as a Health Educator as directed in the Patient-Centered Medical Home Health Care Delivery Model. Education to include treatment modalities and Anaphylaxis riskObtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications as needed for patients having procedures or testsDispose of contaminated supplies/used itemsSterilize medical instruments as neededEnsure that exam rooms are clean and stocked for patient useMaintain both supplies and equipment, proactively work with co-workers to stockAttend nurse meetings and other educational opportunitiesOrder serums and other medications as neededMail normal labs to patients and call patients with abnormal labsPerform customer service checks on patients every 10 minutesChange sharps container and biohazard trashEnsure to follow policies and procedures set by Holston Medical GroupMaintain communication with providers to ensure that patents needs are taken care ofCommunicate all office issues with the Nurse Manager/Asst Nurse Manager.Ensure that equipment is in operating order (crash cart, defibrillator, autoclave, etc.)Mentor new nursing staff and orient to the officeResponsible for all allergy testing by MQT testing procedure (Modified Quantative Testing), mix allergy serums for testing and mix allergy serums for treatmentMaintain clinical area to meet site visit standardsMaintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to personnel and patient PHI (Protected Health Information)Enroll patients in Follow My Health as directedMay be moved to other offices upon request based upon the business need of Holston Medical Group on an occasional basisPerforms other duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent required•LPN license by the state in which employed or Certified/Registered Medical Assistant•3-5 years' experienceKnowledge:CPR certifiedMust possess excellent communication skillsAbility to work in a team environment and collaborate with othersMust have completed Basic Allergy Course through the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA)Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneCompetencies:Accountability - Accepting responsibility that results in anticipation/prevention of problem areas from actions, and problem solving and outside the department/organization.Customer focus - knowing the patient needs and acting; accordingly, anticipating needs, and giving high priority to patient satisfaction and customer service.Empathy - Showing interest in other people's feelings, attitudes, and reasoning.Integrity - Upholding generally accepted social and ethical standards in job-related activities and behaviors.Quality Orientation - Setting high standards regarding his/her work and working environment and acting; accordingly, developing quality standards, continuously evaluating performance, products, and procedures; actively seeking ways to improve quality.Strategic Thinking - Understands and processes complex information and exercises sound judgement, considering the situation, the issues, the key players and the levels of authority involved.
