This critical role involves driving the development of IP and 5G wireless networking systems, focusing on both proprietary and standard-based solutions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with a deep understanding of wireless networking, cloud-native architectures, and hardware-software co-design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Direction & Leadership: Define and execute the technical roadmap for IP and 5G wireless networking systems. Lead, mentor, and manage diverse engineering teams (software, hardware, and test).
  • Design & Architecture: Oversee the architectural design of complex, high-performance systems, ensuring modularity, scalability, and robustness across both software and hardware platforms.
  • Technical Expertise & Oversight: Provide expert guidance and technical oversight in key areas, including modular software design, networking protocols (IP/TCP/UDP), IP routing protocols, 5G core (5GC) architecture, Radio Access Network (RAN) design, and cloud-native software implementation (e.g., microservices, containers).
  • Product Development: Drive the entire product lifecycle, from concept and specification through development, integration, and deployment of both software and custom hardware.
  • Hands-on Development: Be prepared to engage in hands-on development as needed, setting technical standards, reviewing code, and troubleshooting complex system issues.
  • Test & Validation: Champion the design and implementation of an advanced, automated test and validation infrastructure to ensure product quality, performance, and compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, sales, and manufacturing teams to align R&D efforts with business goals and market needs.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience leading and managing software and hardware development teams in the telecommunications or networking industry.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven track record of successfully bringing complex, high-technology products to market.
  • Software Expertise: Deep expertise in:
    • Modular and object-oriented software design principles.
    • Cloud-native software design (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, microservices).
    • Strong background in operating systems (e.g., Linux) and large-scale application development.
  • Networking & Wireless Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • IP Networking protocols and routing architectures, including expertise in routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
    • 5G Core Network (5GC) architecture and functions (e.g., AMF, SMF, UPF).
    • Radio Access Network (RAN) design principles and standards (e.g., O-RAN, gNB).
  • Hardware Familiarity: Solid understanding of hardware development processes, including high-speed digital design, FPGA/ASIC implementation, and system-level integration with software.
  • Tools & Process: Experience implementing and managing continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automated testing frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with military radio systems, waveforms, and communication standards (a plus).
  • Experience in securing complex network systems and complying with stringent security requirements.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
