This position is located in Richmond, VA. The duties include repairing small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies, analyzing unit deficiencies to determine required organizational training, using hand tools to make repairs and adjustments, and performing two level Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) to include periodic gauging.
Requirements and conditions of employment include a suitability or fitness determination through a completed background investigation, membership in the US Army Reserves (USAR), and a valid State Driver's license. The position also requires a pre-employment physical and a Personnel Security Investigation.
Qualifications are determined by eligibility from categories such as current Department of Army Civilian Employees, current Department of Defense (DOD) Civilian Employee (non-Army), and others. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. There is no specific length of training or experience required, but applicants must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work without more than normal supervision.
Minimum qualifications include the ability to do the work of a Small Arms Repairer without more than normal supervision, interpret instructions, knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, and use of measuring instruments.
Physical effort required includes frequently lifting sub assemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds and often carrying large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. The work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. Working conditions include being exposed to oil, grease, and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons, and the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools and sharp edges of metal. The job is subject to noise when test firing weapons.
This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information includes requirements for male applicants born after December 31, 1959, to complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration, and the need to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
