Position Description

◦ Make sure the preparation of the area in which the pipe will lay is accurately graded and compacted

◦ Supervise equipment Operators in the placement of pipe

◦ Direct equipment Operators with hand signals

◦ Backfill around pipe using hand tools

◦ Verify the correct position of pipe and fittings in an underground trench.

◦ Knowledge of the assembly and installation of valves, fittings, pipe and boxes composed of metal, PVC, ductile and concrete

◦ Test pipes for leakage.

◦ Must have in-depth knowledge of various types of underground pipe

◦ Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems

◦ Dig trenches to desired or required depths, if necessary, by hand or using trenching equipment

◦ Be able to understand written or verbal instructions and plans to complete project

◦ Reliable attendance – Company truck will be provided

◦ When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated

Position Requirements Required Skills/Abilities

• Skilled tradesman who will be responsible for the supervision of grading trenches, assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for water, storm pipes, sanitary sewers, manholes, boxes, and water mains.

• Position requires thorough knowledge of the set-up and proper use of pipe lasers and transits to shoot grade

• Position requires thorough knowledge of all water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer construction means and methods.

• Ability to read and understands blueprints, plans and specifications

 

 

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of five (5) years job-related experience

 

Physical Requirements:

 

• Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time. carry at least 30 pounds

• Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces

• Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
