About the Role:

Data Governance Strategy

· Use the Corporate Data Governance Strategy to develop, document and communicate the project data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap.

· Define, monitor and report on data governance objectives, priorities, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

· Establish governance structures, roles, and responsibilities to support effective data stewardship and accountability.

· Align data governance strategy with enterprise data architecture, compliance, and business goals.

Policy and Process Development

· Design, document, and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures for the specific application/platform and in accordance with Starbucks enterprise policy and standards.

· Define data classification schemes, data ownership models, and data lifecycle management practices.

· Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices.

Data Quality Management

· Establish data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring mechanisms.

· Identify and communicate potential data integrity concerns during system build.

· Collaborate with Product Owners to identify data quality issues and root causes.

· Implement data quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions as needed.

Program Management

· Lead cross-functional teams to deliver governance initiatives.

· Manage program milestones, risks, and dependencies across multiple workstreams.

· Drive change management and user adoption of governance practices.

· Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote data literacy and governance best practices.

· Organize and lead System governance meetings on a regular cadence to provide updates, raise awareness, and discuss updates.

· Develop and provide training and guidance to employees on data governance principles, policies, and procedures.

Governance Oversight and Reporting

· Establish mechanisms for governance oversight, including regular reviews and audits.

· Monitor compliance with data governance policies and assess effectiveness of controls.

· Prepare and present data governance reports, dashboards, and metrics to senior leadership.

Metadata Management and Documentation

· Implement metadata management processes to capture and maintain data lineage, definitions, and dependencies.

· Establish data dictionaries, glossaries, and cataloging tools to facilitate metadata discovery and documentation.

· Promote system metadata standards and best practices across the organization.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data governance, enterprise data management, or information architecture.
  • 5+ years in a program or project management role, ideally leading cross-functional initiatives in large, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven experience in implementing or governing enterprise specification management systems or product lifecycle management (PLM) platforms is strongly recommended
  • Proficient in Smartsheets and data governance related tools (e.g. Collibra).
